BIRD BATH TALL

A Scalloped Rim Beats a Smooth One

The basin is a shell, ribs radiating from the center out to an edge that rises and falls with them. Two cast birds sit on the rim. The base opens into a planting bowl, shown here with pink daisies in it.

That wavy edge is doing work. A smooth stone rim is slick once wet, and a bird lands on the rim and settles before it steps in. The dips between ribs give it somewhere to hold.

Thirty two inches and 4.4 pounds. Concrete at that height starts around thirty pounds, which rules out most balconies and every timber deck you would rather not mark.

What Makes This Bird Bath Different

  • The ribbed edge gives grip a smooth rim cannot. Birds land on the rim and assess before committing, and wet feet slip on a plain circle. A shell edge rises and falls all the way round, so there is always somewhere to hold. The shape and the function are the same detail here rather than one being added to the other.
  • A planting bowl at the base. The base is a real bowl that takes soil, not a decorative foot. Bath at bird height, planting at ground level, one position in the garden instead of two.
  • Thirty two inches at four and a half pounds. Height that reads across a garden without the weight that usually comes with it. One hand carries it out and one hand brings it in.
  • Keep the water shallow. Add a shallow layer of water and keep it below the rim. Refresh it regularly.
Where to put it

Against a wall, a fence, a hedge or within planting rather than free standing in wind. Planting the base bowl adds weight low down. Balconies, decks, border edges and small paved gardens all suit it. Thirty two inches puts the basin at a safe height. Leave open ground on the approach side and keep cover within a short flight.

Setup, Care, and Warranty

Setup and placement

Assembly is required and takes no tools. Set it on level solid ground.

Plant the base bowl. Weight low down is what steadies a tall light piece.

Filling it

Add a shallow layer of water and keep it below the rim. Refresh the water regularly.

Planting the base

The bowl is shallow and dries faster than a deep pot, so drought tolerant or trailing plants suit it better than anything thirsty. Water it separately from the bath.

Winter

Drain the basin before the first hard frost. At 4.4 pounds it comes inside easily for the season, and the base bowl can be emptied or replanted.

3-year warranty

This product includes a 3-year warranty. Coverage, claim requirements and required documents are subject to the warranty policy that applies at the time of purchase. Keep your order confirmation and contact customer support with your order details if service is needed.

Questions Before You Choose

Does the shell shape help the birds?

Yes. The rim rises and falls with the ribs, so there is always a dip to hold. Wet feet slip on a smooth stone circle, which is where a lot of birds turn round and leave.

Can you plant the base?

Yes, it is a bowl that takes soil rather than a solid foot. Planting it also steadies the piece, which matters at this weight.

Is it metal?

Resin with an antique bronze finish. That is what keeps a 32 inch piece down to 4.4 pounds.

Will it hold in wind?

In a sheltered position, yes, particularly with the base planted and the bath filled. In an open exposed spot, choose concrete instead.
